Registered Therapeutic Yoga Teacher 300 Requirements

These standards outline how to become a Registered Therapeutic Yoga Teacher 300 (RTYT-300) with Yoga Alliance International.

The RTYT-300 credential is for yoga teachers who have completed therapeutic yoga training or who can demonstrate equivalent education, teaching experience, and competence through the Yoga Alliance International grandfathering pathway.

RTYT-300 recognizes teachers who use yoga in a therapeutic, adaptive, trauma-aware, accessible, or wellness-supportive way while staying within the scope of yoga education.

This credential is not a medical, psychological, or clinical therapy license.

Training Requirements

Applicants must have completed a minimum of 300 hours of therapeutic yoga training through one of the following pathways:

Option 1

A 300-hour therapeutic yoga teacher training program registered with Yoga Alliance International.

Option 2

A 300-hour therapeutic yoga training program, online or in person, from a recognized yoga school, yoga therapy school, therapeutic yoga program, or established international yoga education provider.

Option 3

A combination of therapeutic yoga modules, workshops, mentorship, continuing education, and professional training equal to approximately 300 hours.

Option 4

Equivalent therapeutic yoga training, professional teaching background, or substantial experience through Yoga Alliance International’s grandfathering pathway.

Grandfathering may be available for experienced teachers who do not hold a single 300-hour therapeutic yoga certificate but can show relevant training, teaching history, mentorship, client/student experience, or demonstrated competence.
